PRESS: Experts detect exposed info of 20 mln users of free VPN nets

MOSCOW, Jul 20 (PRIME) -- Research team vpnMentor have found in public Internet access data of 20 million users of free VPN services, which could comprise at least tens of thousands of Russians, and the leak revealed vulnerability of the services promising anonymity in the Internet, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday.

An unprotected server keeps data of applications UFO VPN, Fast VPN, Free VPN, Super VPN, Flash VPN, Secure VPN, and Rabbit VPN, including e-mails, non-encoded passwords, IP and home addresses, information about smartphones and identifiers of user devices. A total volume of data is at 1.2 TB.

Many of the applications have more than 1 million of downloads in Google Play and AppStore with the user rating above 4.5, vpnMentor said.

Free VPN are popular in Russia amid multiple blocked foreign resources. Experts told the daily that among the users of the compromised services could be tens and even hundreds of thousands of Russians.
